Numerical Investigation for Riverbank Filtration Sustainability Considering Climatic Changes in Arid and Semi-Arid Regions; Case Study of RBF Site at Embaba, Nile Delta, Egypt

Changes in riverine hydrography and reduced aquifer recharge due to projected climate changes arid semi-arid regions are the main issues of water supply, especially Nile Delta, Egypt. Continuous degradation results from flow, poor management groundwater extraction, human activities throughout Nile’s course drainage channels. Contamination this with heavy metals dissolved organic solids reduces quality water, which increases price treatment. River Bank Filtration (RBF) is a treatment technology used for improving drinking taken polluted rivers where abstraction wells installed on banks. This study was applied RBF site at Embaba, Egypt using numerical code MT3D. The simulated calibrated current situation number scenarios investigate effect climatic sustainability. Four were identify estimate portion total travel time river wells. first scenario involves reduction stages, second decrease recharge, third combination two scenarios, fourth combines 1, 2, 3. indicate that decreased 67.42% base case 35.46% 64.99% stage by 75% 182.50 (base case) 50 mm per year, respectively. Moreover, increased reach 87.75% General Head Boundary case, while three 67.24%. Finally, supply systems should be extended installing operating facilities manage negative effects change through stages increasing overpopulation.
